According to Hip Hop Wired, the Center For Disease Control has recently revealed that at least 48 percent of Black women between the ages of 14 and 49 have herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2), which is an incurable infection.
While others may not face any infection signals, typical symptoms include painful sores on the genitals. Additionally, over 80 percent of those infected women are unaware of their lifetime infection.
Kevin Fenton, M.D., director of CDC’s National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention released the following statement on this matter:
“We are particularly concerned about persistent high rates of herpes among African-Americans, which is likely contributing to disproportionate rates of HIV in the black community.”
